A History to Build Upon
After returning from duty in the second World War, Percy “Knobby” Smith was given work in construction of new homes in the Fenland Area working for Mr P Rooke.
After 18 years of service, his 40th birthday gave him the push to work for himself, giving birth to Percy Smith (Chatteris) LTD, working with my father Trevor, my Uncle Peter and my beloved grandmother Phylis.
On the imminent retirement of my grandparents, my parents Christine and Trevor ran the company until its closure in 1990 with myself choosing engineering as the future as opposed to construction due to the economic collapse of the housing market at that time.
As my grandfather passed in mid-2013, I promised him I would reopen the family’s business, this time in his honour Smith Percy LTD, I had continued in property purchase, renovation and new build all the way through as I truly couldn’t forget my heritage.
